Do Scottsdale animals chew on water pipes? What are the risks?
In a lot of modern houses, especially ones that are more than one story high, a lot of the water pipes are made from PVC, now PVC is cheap and very effective as water pipes but it is also easy for rodent or any other wild Scottsdale animal to choose through it and this is its downside. There is considerable debate over why animals would choose through plastic water pipes, some people believe they do it because they like to chew things, mainly to keep their front teeth in check but others believe they do it because they want to get a drink of fresh water and they can somehow detect the pipe has fresh water in it, there is no actual evidence to suggest either is correct.
Generally if Arizona animals in your house choose through a water pipe and cause extensive water damage to the inside of your property then that will be the first indication that you even have some kind of wild animal infestation. But if you live in an area that is prone to animal infestations there are some basic steps you can take to prevent the pests from totally destroying your house. There are generally two types of damage animals do to water pipes, the first kind is usually a small hole that allows water to drip out, this would take considerable time to do substantial damage to the house but it is also hard to spot when it first starts. The other kind of course is basically a flood, the pipe bursts water goes everywhere and everything is soaking wet within a very short space of time.
A lot of people in authority actually say the flood is a better option because the slow leak will cause a buildup of mold, which could be toxic and rotting beams which when they finally break could be hazardous. If you find you have a slow leak get it fixed immediately obviously and then set about, also immediately, but eradicating the pests that caused it and this is one time when you're not going to play nice, set lethal traps and eradicate the animals.
They say do not use poison in this circumstance to get rid of the pests because most poisons cause the Scottsdale animal to become dehydrated which means of course they will want another drink and may open the hole in the water pipe even further, also poison only kills about 20% of its intended targets. Your goal should be to eradicate the animals during the current damage and then exclude any new animals from taking up residence after they are gone.
